One: Bio-availability. Certain forms of vitamins are more easily absorbed than others.
Two: The right balance of nutrients. This is important so you don’t end up with any toxic buildup. Or that you deplete the existing levels of other vitamins.
Three: Enough of a vitamin or phytochemical to actually make a difference to your body. This may seem like stating the obvious, but trace amounts of herbs or antioxidants often do more for the bottle than for you…
Four: Mineral absorption in the body is a little tricky. Look for products that are chelated with amino acids, or using special technology like nanotechnology.
Five: Confusing product claims or terms. For example, something can be labeled organic but sourced from animal or plant tissue, or raw materials like coal tar and wood pulp. There’s a big difference in quality there…
Six: Know your RDA (recommended daily allowance). This is a generalisation - as people have different activity levels, lifestyles, etc. But its a good starting point.
